St. Joseph devotional oil
We use the Oil from The Shrine of St Joseph in Mont Royal, Montreal Quebec.
Saint Joseph's oil is not a remedy, much less a magic rite. We must first see it as a gesture of faith.
Inspired by a devotion that was already practiced in France, Brother André took oil from a lamp that burned in front of a statue of Saint Joseph. He recommended to the sick to rub their suffering body with this oil and to pray to Saint Joseph for their healing.
This tradition continues at Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal. A basin of vegetable oil placed in front of a statue of Saint Joseph contains a flame which burns there day and night. This oil is bottled and made available to pilgrims.
